Alcohol and drug abuse is more common than you think among sports people. Some take it to perform better, others to take some time off the pressure. Whatever the case is, the results are often life-wrecking and devastating for families and communities. Jan Earl talks to with us today about how her work with athletes and the importance of opening about mental health and substance abuse

Sports can be very demanding and given the nature of its environment, one that emphasises high achievers, can compromise mental health. This often contributes to various forms of depression and substance abuse.   


Jan Earl has experienced it first hand with her sister, her father and later her son. She learned early on why it is important to never give up on working on yourself no matter how big the adversity is and live with gratitude. 


She loves what she does and Her passion for her work shines through.


Currently, She is the Head of Wellness for the South Sydney Rabbitohs. She works with elite athletes helping them cope and heal from addiction issues, trauma, and mental and emotional blocks impeding them from showing up as their best selves both on and off the field.


In this episode, she emphasises the importance of coming out, and getting rid of the stigma around addiction with lots of introspection, resilience, gratitude and never shame. She makes hard work simple.
